The shilling is recovering, but we are not there yet. Looking at the exchange rates for the past weeks, one can sigh with relief that finally our shilling is gaining some ground against major currencies. That's a good sign, the future is not so bleak after all!
In a previous article, I advised that these are precarious times. We cannot live they way we did years ago. Things, as everybody says, are tough. There is definitely need for creative ways to help us wade through our monetary quagmire.
The military offensive against the Al Shabaab has added a new twist to the problem. Wars are costly, and some like these, well, they are inevitable! Somebody needs to beat into the thugs in Somalia that we need our peace for its the only thing that makes us who we are.
Our valiant men and women have gained considerable ground in Somalia, but it is not enough. Although we cannot rush headlong into the Al Shabaab strongholds, it is important that we expeditiously deal with the militants. They brought the war to us and its time we took it to their doorsteps.
It is Chinua Achebe who asks what is one supposed to do when he comes home and finds someone "shitting" in their house? Well, the answer is simple: take a big stick and break their neck!
This war is taking a toll on us in many ways. For business owners and taxpayers, the monetary aspect is hurting them badly. The article I mentioned earlier I think still offers good advice in these tough times. Have a look!
