Five Benefits of Insurance: From an Insurer's Perspective

By Sarah Mwongeli.

Contrary to the common belief among many people, insurance is affordable and reachable to everyone. Most of us will ask, why take insurance? Of what benefit is it to me especially if I do not incur any claim?
In case you do not incur any claim there is the No Claim Discount. However, if you do, you will be reimbursed and helped to stand on your feet again. Supposing you do not take insurance and suffer loss, what will you do? Start from scratch?

Let us look at some advantages of insurance.

Financial Stability incase of a misfortune or loss

A person who has adequately insured his home/property/business etc will not suffer financial loss in case there is a loss of property e.g. through fire, burglary, political violence etc, as they will be fully compensated.

Peace of mind

Knowing you have insurance will give you peace of mind and enable you to concentrate on other things. It is very disturbing to lose your property through say fire or any other accident. But if your property is insured, you will have the assurance that someone will shoulder the loss.

Continuity even after a loss

Insurance offers some covers that ensures there is no business interruption even after a loss. It pays an agreed amount of money as the insured is reconstructing his business after a claim. There is also Personal Accident Cover, that ensures compensation is done weekly to the insured as he recuperates following an accident. In motor insurance there is also loss of use which enables the insured to be given a courtesy car for usage while his car is being repaired.

Proper planning

An example of this is Education Policy whereby parents take for their children even before they join nursery and hence they make very minimal monthly installments. When the child reaches the level of secondary education or university, the parent is given the lump sum amount he has been saving or in bits to pay the fees. This means the child’s fees in secondary school or at the university will be catered for by the insurance cover the parent took. You can also plan retirement, wedding, buying property or any project through insurance.

Availability

Lately insurance has been tailor-made to cover basically everyone, everything and everywhere. Be it livestock, agriculture, homes, businesses etc in the rural areas to everything in the cities. There is something for everyone at a very affordable rate.

I believe these are very important reasons why you should take a cover for yourself, your family and you property. Let the insurer take the stress from you in case of any eventuality.
